     Disaster is defined as a serious disruption of the functioning of a community or a society. A disaster can interrupt essential services such as transportation, communications, electricity, health care and so on. Poor planning of responses can have a significant negative impact. Disaster Management is needed to substantially reduce disaster losses. Disaster Management can be defined as the organization and management of resources and responsibilities for dealing with all humanitarian aspects of emergencies, in particular preparedness, response and recovery in order to lessen the impact of disasters. In order to meet these needs for a more holistic approach to Disaster Management, Naresuan University is offering a Master’s program, based on the above philosophy.

     Natural disasters have been defined as sudden calamitous event bringing great damage, loss or destruction which seriously disrupt the functioning of a community or a society involving widespread human, material, economic and environmental loss and impacts. Many types of natural disasters have been occurred in Thailand as well as other countries such as flood, drought, landslide, earthquake, tropical storm, wildfire etc. Disaster management cycle i.e. preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation has been designed to reducing disaster risk. However, today there has been insufficiency of the practitioners and researchers for managing disaster effectively. Therefore, this curriculum has been developed for producing graduates with knowledge, skills and ability and able to generate new knowledge in the area of disaster management in order to increase the capacity to cope with disaster impact. The expected learning outcomes of this programme have led graduates to achieve internationalization, innovation, and integration.
